Ospanov, Kanafiya Buzhinovich

Kanfiya (Mukhammed) Buzhinovich Ospanov was born November 23, 1941 in the village of Kara-Utkel in Kokshetau pronvince. From 1964-1967, he studied at the Almaty Art School, and in 1972, he graduated from the art department of the Moscow Technological Institute.

Ospanov’s one surviving mosaic in Almaty, at KIMEP University, was made shortly after Kazakhstan’s independence. Another work, a mural at the sanitation and epidemiology station, was destroyed.

Elsewhere in Kazakhstan, Ospanov completed a relief at the Kumai Sovkhoz in Kostanai province (1973), a mosaic at the Glavrissovkhozstroi building in Chardara (1975), a relief at the entrance to Yermak (Aksu) in Pavlodar province (1980), a mosaic at the Maikotov House of Culture in former Turgai province (1981) and a relief at the Turksib House of Culture in Taraz.
