Tastaev, Abat KashgalievichAbat Tastaev was born in 1949 in the village of Yenbek in western Kazakhstan. He graduated from N.V. Gogol Almaty Art School in 1971 and went on to receive a higher degree from teh Moscow Institute of Art and Textiles in 1977. His one known work of monumental art is a stained glass piece titled “Child bathing” from 1983, but it’s location and fate are a mystery. The work is listed in the album “Monumental Art of Kazakhstan,” complete with a photograph, as being located at Almaty’s Arasan Bathhouse, but long-time workers at the banya claim to be unaware of any such piece. For now, this historic citation is all we have. Today, Tastaev lives in the province of his birth, in the city of Uralsk, where he’s a member of the Union of Artists.
